Milly Scott – Trouble In Mind
18 November 2025
At long last, the remarkable jazz recordings of Milly Scott (born 1933) are receiving the attention they deserve. With "Trouble In Mind", the Netherlands Jazz Archive presents a collection of historical recordings from 1962 to 1966, released in close collaboration with Scott herself. These sessions capture an artist at the height of her powers — soulful, confident, and unmistakably original.
Milly Scott was the first Black jazz vocalist in the Netherlands, a trailblazer whose career spanned jazz, pop, and television entertainment. In the 1960s she was a household name, recording nineteen 45-rpm singles, mostly Dutch-language covers of American and British hits. She became a television icon and, in 1966, made history as the first Black artist to represent the Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest with Fernando en Filippo.
